FROM MY WORLD
A Tough Call I Had to Make
Let’s get real about something today: Your network can be your greatest asset—or your biggest liability.
I recently had to send out a not-so-fun email. The subject? A warning about someone in my network who, let’s just say, didn’t exactly operate above board. I laid out their name, email, and a quick note advising others to steer clear. Brutal? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely.
Here’s why.
When you’ve built a reputation like mine—where people trust you for connections and opportunities—it’s a two-way street.
I’m generous with my network, opening doors and making introductions. But with great power comes great responsibility (thanks, Uncle Ben). If someone I vouched for burns my connections, guess whose reputation takes the hit? Mine. And that’s unacceptable.
Here’s what went down: This individual attended a couple of my events and presented themselves as a JV manager for a prominent player in the industry. They brokered a deal for me that didn’t meet my clear criteria.
After weeks of wasted effort, I canceled the deal.
No biggie, right? Wrong. Instead of handling it professionally, they decided to air our private conversation in a public group chat, painting me as the bad guy.
Unprofessional. Untrustworthy. Unacceptable.
So, I did what any self-respecting business owner would do. I hit “send” on that email and made sure everyone in my circle knew to proceed with caution. And the responses I got? Pure gratitude. Most people didn’t need the messy details; they just thanked me for the heads-up.
Here’s the lesson: Who you don’t work with is just as important as who you do.
In this game, reputation is everything. I’ve seen firsthand how partnering with the wrong people can destroy years of goodwill.
A friend of mine once teamed up with a big-name traffic broker. They made six figures together at an event, but the aftermath was a disaster—elevators, physical threats, the whole nine yards.
That single bad partnership echoed through the industry for years.
When I launched my e-farming program, that same broker came knocking.
At first, I saw dollar signs. But after hearing the horror stories from trusted colleagues, I decided to pass. The result? A massive headache avoided—and a reminder that people rarely change their stripes.
People operate in patterns. The reliable ones? They stay reliable. The unstable ones? Well, let’s just say you’ll see their true colors eventually.
Protecting your network isn’t just about loyalty; it’s about longevity. And sometimes, the best decision you can make for your business is the one where you walk away.

You Don’t Need Letters After Your Name to Lead
What if I told you that you’re already a leader? Yeah, I know what you’re thinking—“Sure, Igor. That’s rich. I can barely lead myself to the gym.”
But hear me out.
Most people think of leadership as something reserved for the Steve Jobs, Martin Luther Kings, or Winston Churchills of the world. Grand speeches, crowds of followers, history books. Meanwhile, we look at ourselves and think, “I’m just… me.”
Here’s the truth: Leadership doesn’t come from degrees, job titles, or fancy letters after your name. It comes from one simple thing—you’ve been somewhere others want to go. That’s it.
You don’t need to have a "Ph.D. in Leadership." In fact, sometimes the best leaders are those who don’t have all the answers. They’re the ones who say, “Hey, I’ve been where you are. I know how hard this feels. Let me show you the way.”
Think about it—someone out there is struggling with something you’ve already conquered. It could be as grand as losing 100 pounds or as specific as figuring out how to grow tomatoes in terrible soil. To them, you’re the hero.
Yet, so many of us shy away from stepping into this role. Why? Because we’re scared we’re not qualified. Impostor syndrome whispers, “Who do you think you are to teach anyone else?” But here’s the irony: Leadership isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being relatable.
Imagine this: You’re hiking a steep trail. Up ahead is some fitness influencer, two miles ahead, yelling at you to hurry up. Annoying, right? Now imagine someone two steps ahead of you, reaching back, saying, “Take my hand, I’ve got you.”
That’s leadership.
And here’s the best part: Becoming a leader isn’t some giant leap. It’s a series of small steps. One blog post. One email. One conversation. Before you know it, people will look to you and think, “Wow, if they can do it, maybe I can too.”
So stop waiting for permission to lead. The world doesn’t need perfect leaders—it needs authentic ones. People like you.
Let me leave you with this: You don’t need to be a genius to lead. You just need the audacity to say, “Follow me.”
