Many of you might not know about this— but I have served in the Israeli Air Force. 

Now, don't get any ideas about me being a badass soldier or anything. I was more of a tech guy, tweaking F16 jet fighter weapon systems. 

But those years were far from mundane and taught me some invaluable lessons, especially in mindset and problem-solving.

Disclaimer: I might have taken Krav Maga lessons, but I don’t remember a thing. Honestly, I’m about as dangerous as the chair I sit on.  I’m a marketer, not a fighter.

For a long time, I tried to avoid the army, even going AWOL. I thought that by staying away, I could evade the challenges and discomfort. 

But the truth hit me hard: You've Got to Get In to Get Out.

I had to enter the system to navigate my way out of it

This lesson was transformative, and it applies directly to our journey in business and life.

In marketing and entrepreneurship, you can't succeed by staying on the sidelines. You have to jump in, make mistakes, and learn from them. Only by immersing yourself in the process can you truly understand it and find your way to success.

In this game, to thrive, you need to master the art of jumping in, facing challenges head-on, and continuously learning.

The only constant in business is change. Your income, clients, and even your strategies will change. The better you get at adapting, the more successful you'll be.

So, next time you find yourself hesitating, remember: You've got to get in to get out

One of the key lessons from the Boron Letters is Halbert's belief in the power of the headline. He often said, "If you can't get their attention, you can't tell them anything."

One of Halbert's most famous headlines was for a weight-loss product. It read: "How A 'Crippled' Mother of Two Discovered The Secret to Losing 23 Pounds in Just 21 Days Without Starving Herself or Doing a Single Minute of Exercise!"

This headline is a masterclass in grabbing attention. Let's break down why it works so effectively:

  • Emotional Hook: "Crippled Mother of Two" evokes empathy and curiosity.

  • Specificity: Mentions "23 pounds in 21 days," adding credibility.

  • Intrigue and Promise: Offers weight loss without starving or exercise.

  • Relatability: Speaks directly to a broad audience.

Halbert’s ability to craft such a compelling headline stemmed from his deep understanding of human psychology. He knew a headline had to captivate and convert.
