FROM MY WORLD
How I Became a “Spammer” at My Daughter’s Karate Class
I was standing outside my daughter’s karate class, casually chatting with another dad. We’ve got the usual small talk going on—kids, weather, and, of course, “What do you do for a living?” The moment I mention that I’m an email marketer, the guy’s whole demeanor changes.
I get the nod—you know, the “Ah, you’re one of those guys” nod. Just like that, I’m instantly boxed into the “spammer” category, and there’s no coming back.
Funny thing is, I’ve been here before.
This isn’t my first time being labeled a spammer just because I send emails for a living. It’s like people hear “email marketing” and think I spend my days clogging up their inboxes with junk mail about questionable products.
But here’s the thing: email marketing isn’t about spamming.
It’s about building relationships, crafting messages that resonate, and—yes—making a healthy profit while doing it.
Yet, the moment people hear the words “email marketer,” they shut down, lumping us all into one big “scammer” bucket.
Now, why am I telling you this?
Because if you’re serious about building your own online business, you’ll face the same crap. Whether you’re running funnels, selling affiliate products, or offering a service—there will always be someone who throws that “scammer” label your way.
And guess what? You’ve got two options: let it get to you, or realize that these people are simply stuck in their own small world, too afraid to think beyond their 9-to-5 existence.
Which world do you want to live in?

MINDSET MAKEOVER
Label Emotions and Watch Them Buy
When was the last time you read a headline or sales page and thought, "Wow, they totally get me"?
Probably not often, right? That's because most marketers are too busy talking at their audience instead of talking to them.
They rattle off features, benefits, blah blah, and then wonder why no one’s buying.
But let me let you in on a little secret. The key to creating a connection—and trust me, this works like gangbusters—is labeling people’s emotions.
You see, most people are walking around in a fog. They don’t always know why they’re frustrated, exhausted, or downright cranky. But if you can put words to those emotions, it’s like flicking a switch in their brain.
Now they’re not just reading your copy—they’re feeling it.
Take a sleep-deprived customer, for instance. You’ve got a fancy mattress to sell, developed by NASA (because of course it is).
It’s got all the bells and whistles, but guess what? No one cares about the technical specs. What they care about is the fact that they feel like crap even after sleeping eight hours.
They’re waking up sore, groggy, and frustrated, and they can’t figure out why.
So what do you do? You label those feelings.
A headline like "Why you're still tired even after a full night's sleep" will stop them in their tracks. Because boom—you’ve just echoed their exact struggle. They’re thinking, "Yes! That’s me!"
You don’t need to be some psychology wizard to pull this off, either. It’s all about stepping into the shoes of your audience and thinking about their everyday frustrations, desires, and fears.
Do this well, and people won't just read your copy. They’ll feel seen, understood—and most importantly, they’ll buy.
So here is the kicker: You can label emotions anywhere. Headlines, emails, bullet points, guarantees, bonuses—you name it. And it works across any niche. Whether you’re selling mattresses or political ideologies ("The Democrats want to take your guns!"), this approach lets people know you’re speaking directly to them.
Because in the end, everyone just wants to be understood. And if your copy can give them that?
Well, you’ve just won the game.
