FROM MY WORLD

Lawn Regulations Were the Final Straw

I've been asked this question at least a hundred times: Why am I moving out of Canada? After seven years in this country, I've decided it's time for a change.

My journey started in Israel, but I'm originally from Ukraine. I moved to Canada to seek a new life for my family, escaping the conflicts and high living costs in Israel. I was ready for a new chapter.

Canada was amazing but I still faced a few harsh realities.

High taxes, hidden fees like the rain and vacancy tax, and restrictive regulations have made it difficult to thrive.

The COVID-19 situation and the trucker protests further highlighted a lack of freedom that reminded me too much of the challenges I faced in Ukraine.

The Canadian education system has also been a disappointment, and the multicultural environment hasn't aligned with my values, leaving me constantly uneasy about my children's future here.

Here, even my lawn is under government surveillance, and the food? Let's just say it's a good motivator to travel.

And don’t get me started on the cold. Eight months of freezing weather every year is no longer bearable.

I want a place where my family can thrive without the constant grip of taxes and regulations.

That's why I’m relocating to Bulgaria. It’s a conservative country with a flat 10% tax rate. Whether you make $500,000 or $5 million, you pay the same percentage, which feels fair to me.

The warmer climate and relaxed atmosphere are also appealing factors.

Now, I know moving isn’t for everyone, but here’s what I suggest: Take a hard look at where you live. Define your primary criteria for quality of life, and measure that against your current situation. If you're unhappy, consider moving.

You don’t have to take what you’re given. Rebel against the system. Ask the tough questions, and if they don’t play ball, you don’t have to play their game.

That’s independence for me.

And that’s why being a list builder is so valuable. It breaks you free from being tied down.

The list-building lifestyle means you can take your business anywhere.

If things aren’t working out where you are, you have the freedom to pack up and leave. It allows for flexibility and adaptability, so you can live life on your own terms.

LESSONS FROM LEGENDS

Test Your Way to More Opens

Are your emails going unnoticed?

Noah Kagan, the expert behind AppSumo, has a simple fix that's changing the game: micro-engagements.

This means adding small, fun ways for people to interact with your emails. It's not about fancy tricks, it's about making real connections.

Think of micro-engagements like little treats that make your emails more exciting. Instead of giving too much information at once, you're giving small, interesting things to do. This makes your emails enjoyable and gets people used to opening them.

Here are some examples of Micro-Engagements:

  • Emoji Reactions: Ask people to react to your email with a smiley face or thumbs up.

  • "This or That" Questions: Ask a simple question like "Coffee or Tea?"

  • Clickable GIFs or Images: Add fun pictures that lead to your website or blog.

  • Mini Quizzes: Ask a quick question about something your readers might like.

  • "Fill in the Blank" Prompts: Write a sentence with a missing word and let people guess the answer.

Kagan has used these little tricks to get more people to open and click on his emails. This means more happy customers and a stronger brand.

Micro-engagements fight against boring emails. They make things fun, build excitement, and make your emails feel like a chat with a friend. You can also learn what your readers like from their answers.

If you want to make your emails better, start small, try different things, and see what happens. The more you do this, the more people will love your emails.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

Confessions of a Recovering Workaholic

For years, work-life balance wasn't even on my radar. The fear of being broke drove me to work crazy hours. Even when I became financially successful, the anxiety of losing it all kept me working late into the night on most days.

Eventually, I realized I needed boundaries.

Setting strict limits and systems let me wrap up work in the afternoons.

Building a business to a certain level of income – maybe around $5,000 or $10,000 per month – gives you the freedom to systematize things and design your ideal work-life balance.

While you can make money all the time, if work-life balance is your goal, focus on financial stability first. Once you have that foundation, you can create a schedule that fits your lifestyle. Whether that means working nights and having free mornings or structuring your day around your kids.

In my own journey, I spent countless hours on my business without burning out. It wasn't travel or a busy social life that kept me going – it was simply a deep passion for the work itself.

Even after I achieved financial success, I kept my lifestyle simple. Over time, I started exploring other interests, but I always made sure my work stayed fulfilling and not a drain.

I found I could keep a healthy balance while still putting in six solid hours of work each day. Unlike my old 9-to-5 job, my current work energizes me. I literally jump out of bed eager to get started, even before coffee!

So, if you're struggling to find work-life balance right now, remember that it's okay to focus on financial stability first. Once you have that, you'll gain the freedom to design a work schedule that truly aligns with your life and priorities.
