FROM MY WORLD

The Friction Point Fix

Let me ask you something:

What’s the one thing you dread doing in your business?

For me, it used to be sitting down to write a new email from scratch. The blinking cursor would stare back at me like it’s saying, “So, what now?” And let’s be honest, getting past that “blank page syndrome” can feel like trying to run a marathon in ankle weights.

We all have these moments—tasks that slow us down, make us groan, or straight-up kill our momentum. I call them “friction points.”

What Is a Friction Point?

Simply put, a friction point is anything that makes you go, “Ugh, I don’t want to do this.” It’s that resistance you feel when the task feels bigger than your motivation to tackle it.

For some, it’s writing. For others, it’s technical setup, like fiddling with autoresponder settings or putting together a new landing page. In fact, friction points show up everywhere, even outside of business.

For example, I hate cooking. Not because I don’t like good food, but because of all the little annoying steps involved. If I have to chop, wash, and then cook something, forget it—I’ll skip straight to the easy stuff, like microwaving leftover mac and cheese.

The solution?

I minimize the friction.

How?

When I first started writing emails to my list, it felt like an uphill battle every single time. So, I created a swipe file—a collection of proven emails and templates I could use as inspiration.

This way, I never have to start from scratch. Need to promote a new offer? I just pull up a similar email, tweak it, and hit send. This cuts my email-writing time in half and eliminates the friction of staring at a blank page.

But friction isn’t just about creating content.

Let’s say you’re running a lead generation campaign, and a prospect fills out a form on your site. If you’re the one who has to manually follow up with every lead, that’s a huge friction point. You can’t always be at your desk, and the longer it takes for you to get back to them, the colder that lead gets.

The solution? Automate the follow-up!

Set up an automated email or a voicemail that acknowledges their inquiry right away, even if you’re out for the holidays. Something as simple as a pre-recorded message saying, “Hey, I got your message! I’m away for Christmas, but I’ll be back tomorrow to give you a call,” keeps the lead engaged and increases your chances of closing the deal.

Don’t let friction kill your momentum

Here’s another example: I once had a meal service that prepped my food for the week. But even then, I realized I could only sustain two friction points.

If I had to open the container, put the food on a plate, and heat it up—no problem. But if I also had to wash and chop some broccoli before eating it? No way. Too many steps. That broccoli would sit in my fridge until it practically grew legs.

This isn’t about being lazy; it’s about knowing your limits. If you have too many friction points, your motivation drops, and soon, you’re avoiding the task entirely.

Find your friction and eliminate it

So, how do you spot friction in your own business?

Ask yourself: What are the tasks I keep putting off? What slows me down the most?

Then, look for ways to systematize, automate, or delegate them.

Hate writing emails from scratch? Build a swipe file. Dread following up with leads? Automate it.

Friction is the enemy of efficiency, so the less you have of it, the faster you’ll move.

And this isn’t just about speed—it’s about sustaining your energy, focus, and enjoyment for what you do. Because if you keep running into the same friction points, you’ll burn out fast.

And burning out is the last thing you want in a business built for freedom.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

The Mental Wall and How to Break Through

Do you ever feel overwhelmed and tempted to quit? I know I have.

When I first started my business, I used to think mental toughness was something only Navy SEALs and marathon runners needed. What did I need it for? I’m just an online marketer, right?

Wrong.

I learned quickly that business will test your mental limits in ways you never imagined. It’s like playing chess against an opponent that never gets tired, never takes a break, and constantly throws obstacles your way. Miss a move, and you can find yourself questioning everything—your decisions, your abilities, and even your goals.

But here’s what I realized:

Success in business is less about skill and more about resilience.

It’s All About Pushing Through When You Want to Give Up

One of my toughest moments happened early in my journey. I’d invested a ton of money and effort into a project that completely flopped. Clients weren’t happy, refunds were pouring in, and I felt like throwing in the towel.

It’s easy to keep pushing when everything’s going right. But true mental toughness shows up when everything’s falling apart. It’s in those moments where you feel completely defeated but still manage to say, “One more try.”

What kept me going? I created a simple mindset rule for myself: Quitting is not an option.

How to Build Mental Toughness—3 Strategies

  • Create Non-Negotiable Rules for Yourself

My rule was simple: “I won’t quit today.”

It sounds basic, but this rule got me through the worst of times. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, I told myself, “I can feel this way tomorrow if I have to, but not today.” Then I pushed on.

Just that small mental shift stopped me from making rash decisions and quitting impulsively.

  • Have a “Reset” Routine

Whenever I hit a mental wall, I noticed one thing: my mind would go into a downward spiral. One bad thought would lead to another until I felt like I was trapped in a maze of negativity.

So, I created a “reset” routine.

For me, it was a quick workout or a short walk outside to clear my head. This small action pattern-interrupted my negative thoughts and gave me a fresh perspective.

  • Make Your ‘Why’ Stronger Than Your Excuses

One thing I kept reminding myself was why I started in the first place. I wasn’t building a business just for the money—I wanted the freedom to spend more time with my family, to build a legacy, and to never have to work for anyone else ever again.

When your why is clear, the challenges seem less intimidating.

Ask yourself: Why am I doing this?

If your reason isn’t strong enough, your excuses will always win.

Mental Toughness Is a Skill—And It’s Built Through Practice

The biggest myth about mental toughness? It’s not something you’re born with. It’s a skill—one you build by pushing through small challenges every day.

So, the next time you’re on the brink of giving up, ask yourself: What’s one small step I can take right now to keep moving forward?

Because each time you push through, you’re building the resilience you need for the big challenges ahead.
