FROM MY WORLD

The Label I Never Chose

Sometimes you don’t get to choose what makes you stand out—the world does it for you.

Back when I was known as the solo ads guy, I didn’t really expect it to stick with me. Sure, it helped get me places, but over time, it became this label I couldn’t shake, like that nickname from high school that haunts you.

Every time I showed up at an event, it was: “Hey, you’re the solo ads guy, right?” Like that’s all I had to offer!

But here’s the twist—I got famous for solving ONE problem really well: helping people get traffic through solo ads. And that’s when the magic happened. People started associating me with this one thing I excelled at, and that alone got me into rooms I never imagined.

You can do the same.

You don’t need to be a jack-of-all-trades. You just need to be the master of one. Solve a single problem better than anyone else, and the market will remember your name.

But there’s a second way to stand out that people always fight me on… Your personality.

Look, I get it—many of you want to fly under the radar. You’re afraid to show the real you in your emails because you think people won’t relate. But that’s exactly what makes you unique!

Whether you’re sarcastic, excitable, or laid-back, your personality is your secret weapon. Trust me, people remember how you make them feel more than anything else.

Here’s what I always say: Don’t be boring. Boring is the death of connection. Even if you’re uncomfortable putting your real self out there, create a persona, a character, a version of you that people can latch onto.

Because at the end of the day, people don’t just choose you because you’re good at what you do. They choose you because they like you.

So whether you’re solving traffic problems, writing killer emails, or whatever it is you’re doing, let people see your personality—flaws and all. The moment you do, you’ll be the one they can’t stop talking about.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

Why Poolside Vacations Make Me Restless

I had an interesting chat with my wife recently. We were on vacation, and she said, “You hate vacations, don’t you?”

It’s not that I hate them—don’t get me wrong, I love getting away. But the idea of lying by the pool all day doing nothing? That drives me nuts.

I don’t feel energized; I feel... restless.

For me, a vacation means shifting gears, doing something engaging. Like the other day, we went to see the Mayan ruins in Mexico—that was exciting. But spending the whole day lounging? Not my kind of vacation.

I treat vacations the same way I treat my everyday work life—focused.

Even when I’m off in some faraway city, I wake up, get a few hours of work done, and then I’m free to explore. In Puerto Rico? Same thing. London? Same thing. Wake up, hit the tasks that matter, then go enjoy the day.

But it wasn’t always like that.

I used to write these long, 20-item to-do lists, thinking I had to tackle everything in one day. And you know what that left me with? Burnout and frustration.

I’d do a ton of stuff, but instead of feeling accomplished, I’d look at all the things I didn’t finish and think, “Wow, I suck.”

Sound familiar?

So, here’s a mindset shift for you: forget the long to-do lists. Focus on just one or two high-impact tasks that will move the needle. Once you nail those, you’ll feel like you’ve conquered the day.

And as for “work-life balance”? I think it’s complete BS. If you love what you do, you don’t need to separate “work” from “life.”

The whole point is to find something you’re passionate about, so it never feels like work in the first place. If you wake up dreading what you do, then that’s when it’s time to rethink things.

Instead of chasing balance, focus on what you love. Do a couple of key things each day that matter, and the rest will fall into place—whether you’re sitting by the pool or exploring ancient ruins.
