FROM MY WORLD
Are You in Control? Or Just Along for the Ride?
Picture this: You're sitting on the couch, scrolling aimlessly through Netflix, trying to pick something—anything—to watch.
You settle for some random show because, let’s face it, making a real decision feels like too much effort right now.
Congratulations. You’ve just entered drifter mode—the mental equivalent of putting your life on autopilot.
And if you don’t snap out of it, that autopilot is flying you straight into a storm.
That’s the exact slap-in-the-face lesson I took from Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill.
In the book, Hill introduces the concept of drifters—people who lack purpose, direction, and focus. They don’t create, build, or achieve. They just… exist.
And guess what? The “devil” (in the book’s metaphor) loves drifters.
Why?
Because they’re easy to control. Easy to distract. Easy to keep stuck in cycles of procrastination and regret.
But here’s the real gut punch. There’s a little bit of drifter in all of us.
And the only way to defeat it? Deliberate action.
I’ll never forget the time I had to fight my own inner drifter head-on. For years, I’d been procrastinating on moving to Canada—even though I knew deep down it was the right decision. But fear and excuses kept me rooted in place.
Until my mentor called me out. He said, “Igor, write down 100 reasons why you NEED to move.”
So, on a long-haul flight back home, I did. I filled page after page with every reason I could think of—personal, professional, even completely random ones.
By the time I hit reason #67, it was game over. I couldn’t hide behind excuses anymore. The clarity was undeniable.
Within a week, I filed my paperwork. Within two months, I sold my car and left my lease.
And before I knew it, I was living in Canada, building a better life—all because I stopped drifting and started deciding.
Since then, I’ve made it my mission to live deliberately.
Whether it’s flying across the world to watch football games, racing fast cars, or shooting big guns—I make it happen.
Because the alternative? Sitting on the couch, wondering where the time went.
So, let me leave you with this: If you feel stuck, lost, or distracted, ask yourself—are you drifting? Or are you deciding?

MINDSET MAKEOVER
Want That Raise? That Couch? That Dream Purchase? Try THIS Trick!
Have you ever tried to convince your partner to buy something you really wanted?
Maybe it was a ridiculously expensive recliner with built-in massage, Bluetooth speakers, and—why not?—an emotional support dog included.
But they shot it down faster than a kid rejecting broccoli.
Here’s the thing: You didn’t lose that argument because the item was expensive. You lost because you didn’t play the game of sequencing.
Let me explain.
People don’t actually make decisions by starting at the cheapest option and working their way up. Nope.
What they really do is start at the most expensive, most over-the-top option—the one they secretly wish they could afford—and then look for the closest thing they CAN afford that still feels like an upgrade.
Think about it.
You’re shopping for golf clubs. There’s a $100 set (cheap and basic), a $650 set (mid-range), and a $2,200 set (top-of-the-line).
Most people don’t grab the $100 set unless they’re absolutely broke. Instead, they look at the $2,200 clubs first, drool over them for a minute, then “settle” for the $650 set—because it feels closer to luxury without totally wrecking their budget.
This trick works everywhere.
Need a raise at work? Don’t just ask for 5%. Start with 15%, then “settle” for the 10% raise you actually wanted.
Want to convince your partner to get a new couch? Start with the deluxe model with built-in everything, then suggest the still-pretty-nice version that’s a fraction of the price.
This works because of anchoring.
The first option sets the bar—making every option after that feel like a compromise (even if it’s exactly what you were hoping for all along).
And the best part?
This isn’t manipulation. It’s psychology.
People feel better about their decisions when they think they’ve compromised—or saved money.
So the next time you need to persuade someone, don’t start low and work your way up.
Start high and make the “real” choice feel like a bargain.
Because when it comes to winning negotiations—or life—you’re either setting the anchor or getting dragged by it.

Hidden Talent? Here’s How to Find It—and Use It
If you ever feel like you’re capable of more—but can’t quite figure out how to tap into it? You’re not alone.
And that’s exactly what Adam Grant tackles in his latest book, "Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater."
This isn’t one of those fluffy, feel-good self-help books that just tells you to “believe in yourself.” Nope. Grant digs deep into science-backed strategies for unlocking untapped skills, breaking through mental roadblocks, and actually achieving your goals—even when you feel stuck or unqualified.
Think of it as a blueprint for turning raw talent into unstoppable momentum.
One of my favorite takeaways? The power of rethinking failure.
Grant argues that failure isn’t a roadblock—it’s feedback. And if you know how to use it, failure can become the fuel that drives you forward instead of holding you back. So if you’re ready to stop wondering what you’re capable of—and start proving it—this book’s worth a spot on your reading list.
