FROM MY WORLD

$124.37 Later, I Knew My Life Would Never Be the Same

I used to have a morning routine that involved dodging falling boulders.

I’m not even joking.

It was a serpentine road through the mountains of Israel, twisting and turning as the bus climbed higher.

Rain? That was when the real fun started.

Roads shut down. Buses turned back. Those rare days were the only silver lining to my daily commute—getting paid for not working. But otherwise? An hour there, an hour back. Unpaid travel time that ate away at my life like an angry accountant slashing hours.

And the jobs? Let’s just say manual labor and I weren’t exactly best friends.

I did stints in housekeeping, laundry rooms, and other soul-crushing gigs. A day in those jobs felt like a week. Anyone who's ever done manual labor will know what I mean: your body aches, your brain turns to mush, and at the end of the day, you’re just a cog in the machine.

So when I discovered the possibility of making money online, I jumped in faster than a cat spotting an open can of tuna.

No more buses. No more back-breaking work. No more boulders. But I wasn’t prepared for the learning curve.

Here’s the twist: the thing that scared me the most—writing emails—became the thing I loved the most.

At first, email writing felt like walking a tightrope without a net. But then, something clicked. Writing became fun. Therapeutic, even. I started treating it like a game: testing subject lines, crafting killer PS's, creating templates, and geeking out over storytelling strategies.

My swipe file grew like a collector’s dream—over 1,500 PS lines, 200 subject lines, and countless bits of inspiration pulled from everywhere.

And the results? They felt like magic.

Imagine hitting “send” on a short email, written at a fifth-grader’s reading level, and watching money roll in.

Earlier today, I sent one out, and by lunchtime, it brought in $700. To put that in perspective, back in my boulder-dodging days, I worked an entire month for that kind of money.

The first time I made money online, it was $124.37. Not exactly life-changing, but I’ll tell you this: it felt better than sex.

That’s when I knew this was it. This was the escape I had been looking for.

Now? My “magic wand” isn’t a stick. It’s my laptop. And every time I hit that send button, it feels like a little piece of freedom.

What about you? Have you found your magic wand yet?

MINDSET MAKEOVER

Why My Son Vacuums (and Plays Chess) for Legos

Let me tell you about the time I became the gamification king of my household.

It all started with my son, Chris, and his relentless obsession with a Lego airplane set. For months, he begged for it, proving that persistence might as well be a genetic trait. And while I admire his determination, at some point, I had to say yes—but with a twist.

Here’s what I did. We printed out a black-and-white picture of the Lego set, divided it into 20 sections, and made a deal: for every five useful things he did, he could color in one section. Once the entire picture was colored, the airplane would be his.

It was like flipping a switch.

Suddenly, Chris was a machine. He went from lounging to playing the piano, vacuuming, helping with breakfast, and even challenging me to chess—all in the name of coloring those sections.

He probably thought he was gaming the system, but in reality? I was the one winning.

It’s amazing how motivation works differently for everyone.

What clicked for Chris didn’t work for my daughter. I tried to gamify her reading by offering her $5 per chapter, but she couldn’t care less.

Turns out, her “motivational currency” wasn’t cash—it was jewelry, nail polish, and cute accessories. Once I cracked the code, I could gamify her chores and learning too.

Even my wife, Anastasia, has her own currency. She doesn’t need grand gestures or fancy gifts. A few heartfelt words of affirmation light her up more than a Tiffany necklace ever could. Recognizing her effort makes her want to go the extra mile again and again.

This is the beauty of gamification. Once you figure out what drives someone, you can turn anything into a game.

But it’s not always about tangible rewards. The real magic lies in understanding what makes someone tick and tapping into it in a way that feels natural and fun.

What about you? Have you gamified any part of your life—or someone else’s?

If not, maybe it’s time to start. You’d be surprised what you can achieve when life feels like a game worth playing.
